Linux

Linux is a cult and it's also a piece of software, the heart of all GNU/Linux operating systems. The cult was founded by Linus Torvalds. The cult has been upsetting Richard Stallman, whose free software cult has been able to grow considerably thanks to the possibilities of the Linux kernel.

Almost the entirety of the Linux kernel users (on a personal computer) are also adepts of the Linux cult. Most of them are also geeks, and a significant part are activists of some sort. The Linux cult benefits from the very small representation of Linux-based systems on desktop computers (from less than one percent to almost two percent depending on the estimate), creating a feeling of "us-against-the-world" that automatically benefits very small cults. It is to be mentioned that the amount of destop computer might be of one billion, so we're talking about up 100 million computers, with just as many users.
